Description: I write this with fear, Beckton Park is my favourite course, it combines the cross-country feeling of say Wanstead Flats, with the popularity of a quiet, shy, and stinky, elementary school kid. The course rarely sees more than 90 runners which makes it perfect for having a quieter run and to fight for the top spots, if the right people don’t show up. Grass covers the majority of the course but there are path and tarmac sections. There are two highlights, first, there is a natural sculpture (made of wood), in the shape of a big ring, just by the course, and it is fun to run through the ring, like Sonic the Hedgehog. When I first ran this course I saw no one do it and I did it, and the second time I saw some people do it…I possibly started the Sonic the Hedgehog trend in Beckton Park. The second highlight is due to the proximity of London City Airport and is the opportunity for a multi-sensory experience. The airplane fuel, massive engine roars, and even vibrations, can be felt at times, and of course the planes land quite near so they can also be seen. The challenge is to attempt to detect airport activity with the most senses possible.
